Synopsis
Kon-Tiki (2012) is a Norwegian adventure drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. It follows six men who pushed off from the coast of Peru in 1947 on a raft of balsa logs and let the Pacific carry them west.
The man behind the idea is ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl, played by Pål Sverre Hagen. He was convinced Polynesia had been settled from South America rather than Asia, and chose to prove it the hard way: build a raft from ancient designs and sail it thousands of miles across open water. His crew includes a refrigerator engineer, a radio operator and a painter, and barely one of them can swim. Sharks circle the logs, storms hit, the ropes start to fray, and there is no turning back for a hundred and one days.
The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and was shot in two versions, Norwegian and English, with the cast taken out onto real water. Gustaf Skarsgård and Agnes Kittelsen round out the crew. Stream Kon-Tiki (2012) online on iFILM.
