Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint carry the film in long stretches with just the three of them against a bleak British winter landscape. Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange and Alan Rickman as Snape make every supporting scene count.

Cinematographer Eduardo Serra shot much of the film handheld, giving the fugitive sequences a restless, off-balance quality unlike any earlier installment.
