On the Edge

On the Edge (2001) is an Irish drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by John Carney — the same filmmaker who later made Once. Cillian Murphy plays Jonathan, nineteen years old, who drives a car off a cliff with his father's ashes on the seat beside him. He survives. The courts send him to a Dublin psychiatric ward for three months.

The ward is full of people who arrived there by different roads. Jonathan expects nothing. What he finds instead — unexpected friendships, a nurse who actually listens, the strange dark humour that keeps people going — gradually shifts something in him. Stephen Rea co-stars.
