Synopsis

Wide Awake (1998) is an American family drama you can watch online on iFILM. M. Night Shyamalan directed it a year before The Sixth Sense — and while there is a child who perceives the world differently, the film is quiet and earnest rather than unsettling.

Ten-year-old Josh attends a Catholic school in Philadelphia. After his grandfather dies, leaving a gap nothing seems to fill, Josh sets out to find God — not metaphorically, but as an actual fifth-grade investigation. He works through the question with the focused seriousness only a child can sustain. His gym teacher (Denis Leary) thinks the whole thing is adorable and slightly worrying. The sports-loving nun played by Rosie O'Donnell is more willing to engage. Dana Delany plays his mother with the particular exhaustion of a parent who cannot fix grief for her kid. The film doesn't wrap faith in easy answers. Stream Wide Awake (1998) online on iFILM.
