Romeo + Juliet

Romeo + Juliet (1996) is Baz Luhrmann's electric take on Shakespeare, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The action moves to the sun-baked, neon city of Verona Beach, where the Montagues and Capulets feud as rival crime families.

Romeo, a young Montague, crosses paths with Juliet Capulet at a costume party and falls hard. Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes play the doomed pair. The dialogue stays pure Shakespeare, yet the kids wear Hawaiian shirts, race muscle cars, and fire pistols engraved with the word "sword." A secret marriage follows, and two armed clans are already itching for blood.

Luhrmann shoots the whole thing like a music video — jump cuts, loud pop, blazing color. The cast also features John Leguizamo, Paul Rudd, Pete Postlethwaite, and Brian Dennehy.
