Synopsis

The Great Gatsby (1974) — Jack Clayton's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel — is available to watch online on iFILM. Screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola shaped the script, and the production recreates the Long Island of the Jazz Age with the kind of detail that makes the excess feel real and the emptiness feel worse.

Robert Redford plays Jay Gatsby, a man who built his fortune around a single obsession. Mia Farrow is Daisy Buchanan — now married to the brutal Tom (Bruce Dern), who has money and no interest in anyone but himself. Sam Waterston narrates as Nick Carraway, Gatsby's neighbor, who watches the whole wreckage unfold from close enough to feel it.

Theoni V. Aldredge's costume design won an Academy Award. The film keeps Fitzgerald's ending intact — which means it earns the sadness it delivers. Stream The Great Gatsby (1974) online on iFILM.
