Synopsis
Wise Guys (1986) is a mob comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Brian De Palma and starring Danny DeVito and Joe Piscopo. Harry Valentini and Moe Dickstein are bottom-rung errand boys for the New Jersey mob. They're not trusted with anything important. There's a reason for that.
They bet the boss's $250,000 on a horse race without asking permission. The horse loses. Their punishment is elegant in a mob-logic sort of way: each man is hired to kill the other. Instead, Harry and Moe bolt to Atlantic City and proceed to make equally terrible decisions on the organization's dime.
De Palma made this as a sharp left turn from Scarface and before The Untouchables — a full comedy, not a thriller with jokes. DeVito and Piscopo have the easy chemistry of two guys who've been getting each other in trouble for years, and Harvey Keitel as the boss provides just enough threat to keep the stakes from evaporating entirely.
