Synopsis
Blow Out (1981) is Brian De Palma's conspiracy thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Jack Terry, a sound man for cheap horror films, is out recording night ambience by a river when a car blows a tire, swerves off a bridge and plunges into the water.
Jack dives in and pulls out a young woman named Sally (Nancy Allen). Her companion, a rising political figure, drowns. The police call it an accident. But when Jack plays back his tape, he hears a gunshot just before the tire bursts. The closer he studies the recording, frame by frame, the clearer it becomes that this was murder, and that someone wants him silenced too.
John Travolta gives one of his sharpest dramatic performances, with John Lithgow as a chillingly calm killer. De Palma turns audio editing into detective work and pays dark homage to Antonioni's Blow-Up. Stream Blow Out (1981) online on iFILM.
