Synopsis
Lenny (1974) is an American biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Bob Fosse shot it in stark black-and-white with the grain of a documentary, and Dustin Hoffman plays Lenny Bruce — the stand-up comedian who turned a microphone into a courtroom battle.
Bruce walked onstage in the early 1960s and said what no one else dared: about race, religion, sex, the hypocrisy baked into polite America. Police were waiting after shows. He faced obscenity charges in city after city, each arrest feeding the next performance. Valerie Perrine plays his wife Honey, a stripper who shared both the highs and the wreckage; Fosse cuts between their story and fragmentary post-mortem interviews, letting contradictions sit without resolving them.
The film earned six Academy Award nominations — Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Hoffman, and three more — making it one of the most decorated biopics of its decade. A film that feels dangerous even now. Stream Lenny (1974) on iFILM.
