About

Synopsis

Thumbsucker (2005) is an American indie drama by director Mike Mills — watch it online on iFILM. Lou Taylor Pucci plays Justin, a seventeen-year-old in suburban Oregon who still sucks his thumb and can barely say three words to the girl he likes.

His parents, played by Vincent D'Onofrio and Tilda Swinton, are each working through their own mid-life detours and largely miss what's happening with their son. The family's alternative dentist, played by Keanu Reeves, tries hypnotherapy. Then Justin gets an ADHD diagnosis and a Ritalin prescription — and overnight he becomes a star debater. He also loses something he can't name. Benjamin Bratt and Vince Vaughn round out a cast that keeps the tone dry and specific.

Mills made his feature debut here, and the film earned strong notices at Sundance for its quiet refusal to fix or lecture its characters. Stream Thumbsucker (2005) online on iFILM.
