1917 (2019) is Sam Mendes' war drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two young British corporals are handed a single day to cross the front and deliver an order that calls off a doomed attack.

Spring, northern France, the trenches of the Western Front. If the message fails to reach the regiment by dawn, sixteen hundred men march straight into a German trap — and one of the runners has a brother among them. Standing in the way: abandoned dugouts rigged to blow, flooded fields, a downed enemy plane, and a foe who could be anywhere. The clock never stops, the pair race against their own deaths, and every wasted minute costs someone a life.

Mendes staged the whole thing to feel like one unbroken shot, with Roger Deakins' camera never leaving the soldiers' side. The idea grew out of stories told by the director's grandfather, who carried messages in that war. The film took three Oscars — cinematography, visual effects, and sound mixing.
