Synopsis

The Go-Between (1971) is a British drama directed by Joseph Losey you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from L. P. Hartley's novel, the film won the Palme d'Or at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. Julie Christie, Alan Bates, and Edward Fox head the cast.

Norfolk, the summer of 1900. Twelve-year-old Leo Colston spends his school holidays at a country estate and ends up carrying secret messages across the fields between Marian — an aristocrat's daughter engaged to a lord — and Ted Burgess, a local farmer. Leo doesn't fully grasp what the letters mean until the consequences arrive all at once.

Losey built the film around class, repression, and the ease with which adults sacrifice a child's innocence for their own desires. The score is by Michel Legrand. Watch The Go-Between (1971) online on iFILM — a quietly devastating portrait of one summer that never quite ends.
