Synopsis

Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) is an animated family comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Kelly Asbury drops Shakespeare's tragedy into a suburban backyard, recasting the doomed lovers as painted ceramic garden gnomes.

Two neighbouring houses on Verona Drive are home to bitter rivals: the Blues and the Reds. The moment their owners leave, the figurines spring to life and pick up a feud that runs to lawnmower drag races, fence-line pranks and the odd act of garden sabotage. Gnomeo of the Blue clan, voiced by James McAvoy, falls for Red gnome Juliet (Emily Blunt), and the two have to keep it secret from both households. The voice cast is stacked with British talent: Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Jason Statham, Ozzy Osbourne, and Patrick Stewart as a talking stone bust of the Bard himself.

Elton John wrote and produced the soundtrack, and his Rocket Pictures spent more than a decade getting the film off the ground. The familiar story takes a sharp turn near the end, breaking from the source, while plastic flamingos and clay figurines carry the jokes. Stream Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) online on iFILM.
