Byzantium

Byzantium (2013) is Neil Jordan's vampire thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two women, a mother and her daughter, have drifted from town to town for two hundred years. They never age, never explain themselves, and kill to stay alive.

Clara (Gemma Arterton) earns her keep through her body and through blood. Her daughter Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan) looks sixteen but carries centuries of weariness and one unbearable secret: she keeps writing her true story down and handing the pages to strangers. When they wash up at a faded seaside guesthouse called the Byzantium, Clara turns it into a brothel while Eleanor grows close to a sickly young man (Caleb Landry Jones), nearly exposing the truth that a brotherhood of immortal men will kill to keep buried.

Jordan, who made Interview with the Vampire, builds this one from Moira Buffini's stage play, which she adapted herself. No fangs, no capes here. Immortality is a grey sea, cheap rooms and blood as currency. A hundred and eighteen minutes of bleak beauty. Stream Byzantium (2013) online on iFILM.
