The Box

The Box (2009) is Richard Kelly's sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A struggling couple is handed a wooden box with a button: press it for a million dollars, and a stranger somewhere will die.

Norma and Arthur (Cameron Diaz and James Marsden) live in a late-1970s suburb where the bills keep winning. Then Arlington Steward shows up at the door — half his face gone, his voice unnervingly calm (Frank Langella). The terms are blunt: cash, twenty-four hours to decide, and the death falls on someone they'll never meet. What follows is nothing the couple saw coming.

Kelly, who made Donnie Darko, grew the film out of Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button," once adapted as a Twilight Zone episode. A simple moral dare about a stranger's life spirals into surveillance, paranoia and something far stranger. Stream The Box (2009) online on iFILM.
