Synopsis
Gods and Monsters (1998) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Bill Condon and built around an Oscar-winning script and one of Ian McKellen's finest performances. McKellen plays James Whale — the British director whose Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein in the early 1930s defined what monster movies could be.
It's 1957 in Hollywood, and Whale is largely forgotten. Strokes have left him fragile and prone to vivid hallucinations from his past. His housekeeper Hannah, played by Lynn Redgrave, manages the house and her disapproval in equal measure. Then Brendan Fraser's Clay Boone takes a job as the gardener. Whale asks him to pose for a portrait. What starts as a transaction becomes something stranger and more honest — two men from opposite ends of every social divide, trading stories about monsters, memory and what it costs to live without apology.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Stream Gods and Monsters (1998) online on iFILM — a quiet, unsentimental look at how a life ends, anchored by performances that stay with you.
