Synopsis
The Sword in the Stone (1963) is a Disney animated feature you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, it retells the old English legend of a scrawny orphan boy and the eccentric wizard who decides to teach him.
England has no king. A sword sits locked in a stone in the heart of London, and only the rightful ruler can pull it free — so far nobody has managed. Meanwhile a skinny lad nicknamed Wart dreams of becoming a knight's squire. One day in the forest he stumbles onto Merlin, a powerful but forgetful wizard who sees something bigger in the boy. The lessons get strange fast. Merlin turns Wart into a fish, a squirrel and a sparrow so he learns how the world really works, education being the one thing that can take you anywhere.
Adapted from T.H. White's novel, this was the last animated feature released while Walt Disney was still alive. Sebastian Cabot narrates, Karl Swenson voices Merlin, and the Sherman brothers supply the songs. At just 79 minutes it moves quick and keeps the gentle Disney humor running throughout.
