Synopsis
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) is Tom Tykwer's dark period drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Eighteenth-century France reeks of fish markets and gutters. Into that filth a boy is born with a freakish gift: he can smell everything, yet carries no scent of his own.
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) reads the world through his nose but has never felt a thing for another person. He apprentices under a fading perfumer, Baldini, played by Dustin Hoffman, and masters the craft fast. Then one obsession takes hold: to capture and keep the scent of young women. To bottle that perfume, he is willing to kill. Alan Rickman plays a father who senses the hunter closing in on his daughter.
Adapted from Patrick Süskind's novel, long called unfilmable, the picture treats Grenouille's hunger for beauty as something monstrous rather than romantic, with narration by John Hurt. Stream Perfume (2006) online on iFILM.
