Coco (2017) — watch online on iFILM: Pixar's Oscar-winning animated film directed by Lee Unkrich, set against the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos.
Twelve-year-old Miguel Rivera lives in a village where music has been banned for generations — his great-great-grandfather walked out on the family to pursue a singing career, and no one has touched a guitar since. Miguel secretly idolizes the late star Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) and wants to play himself. On the night of the Day of the Dead, he accidentally crosses into the Land of the Dead — a vivid world of colour and skeleton ancestors — where he teams up with a fast-talking drifter named Héctor (Gael García Bernal). Their deal: Héctor gets Miguel to de la Cruz, Miguel gets Héctor's photo onto the family ofrenda.
Lee Unkrich built the film around genuine research into Mexican folklore and won two Academy Awards — Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song — plus a Golden Globe. Stream Coco (2017) online on iFILM.
