Synopsis

Finding Forrester (2000) is Gus Van Sant's drama you can watch online on iFILM. Jamal Wallace, a sixteen-year-old from the Bronx, is a gifted basketball player who hides his real talent in a battered notebook full of writing.

On a dare, the local kids break into a recluse's apartment, and Jamal leaves his backpack behind. The man returns the journal covered in sharp corrections. That is how the boy learns the grumpy hermit is William Forrester, author of a single novel that won the Pulitzer half a century ago, after which he vanished from public life. Sean Connery plays a man who hasn't left his flat in forty years and is terrified of his own fame. A secret apprenticeship begins: one teaches the other to write, while the student pulls his teacher back toward the living world. F. Murray Abraham plays a teacher who refuses to believe a Black kid could write those words himself.

Mike Rich's screenplay rests on a simple, bitter idea: talent means nothing without someone willing to bet on it. A quiet film, light on big twists, about words and what they cost. Stream Finding Forrester (2000) online on iFILM.
