Synopsis

The Road to Guantanamo (2006) is a British docudrama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mat Whitecross and Michael Winterbottom. It follows three young British Muslims from Tipton who traveled to Pakistan for a wedding in 2001, crossed into Afghanistan as US bombing began, and ended up in American military custody — not as fighters, but as people who were in the wrong place at a catastrophic moment.

Ruhel Ahmed, Asif Iqbal, and Shafiq Rasul spent two years in Guantanamo Bay without charge, without trial, and without a lawyer. The film cuts between dramatized scenes and real on-camera interviews with the men themselves, who describe interrogations, solitary confinement, and a release that came with no explanation and no apology. Whitecross and Winterbottom don't editorialize — the facts are damning enough on their own. An unsettling look at what due process meant in the years after September 2001.
