Synopsis

The Book Thief (2013) is a wartime drama directed by Brian Percival that you can watch online on iFILM. Germany, the winter of 1939. Nine-year-old Liesel arrives at a foster home near Munich, and she cannot yet read a single word.

Letters reach her through one stolen book, then another. Her foster father Hans (Geoffrey Rush) teaches her in the basement after dark; sharp-tongued Rosa (Emily Watson) grumbles but keeps the girl fed. When the family hides Max, a young Jewish man, behind the stairs, reading stops being a child's pastime and becomes a way to stay sane while columns march outside and books burn in the square. Sophie Nelisse plays Liesel with a stillness that says more than any speech around her.

The film adapts Markus Zusak's bestselling novel, narrated by Death itself, a device carried straight into the script. John Williams wrote the score and earned an Oscar nomination for it. This is the story of a girl who stole words in years when words could cost a life. Stream The Book Thief (2013) online on iFILM.
