Synopsis
La Dolce Vita (1960) is Federico Fellini's drama you can watch online on iFILM. Late-1950s Rome, an endless run of parties, and a tabloid reporter named Marcello drifting through all of it without ever landing.
Marcello chases celebrity gossip while telling himself he'll write something serious someday. The someday never comes. Women pass through his nights and leave no mark. A bored aristocrat, a jealous fiancee, his visiting father, and the American screen goddess Sylvia, played by Anita Ekberg, who famously wades into the Trevi Fountain at dawn. The part turned Marcello Mastroianni into a global star. Then the suicide of his friend Steiner, a man who seemed to have everything, knocks the ground out from under him.
Fellini built the film not as a plot but as seven days and nights stitched together, a mosaic of glamour with emptiness underneath. It won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and an Oscar for costume design, and the word "paparazzi" comes straight from a photographer character here. Three hours, no moral handed to you.
