Synopsis
The Shining (1980) is Stanley Kubrick's landmark horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, a struggling writer who takes a winter caretaker job at the vast, snowbound Overlook Hotel in Colorado. He brings his wife Wendy and their young son Danny. The nearest town is miles away. The season lasts months.
Danny has a gift — he sees things imprinted in the hotel's walls that no one else can: twin girls at the end of a corridor, an elevator full of blood, fragments of what happened here years before. Jack, meanwhile, stops writing. Kubrick adapted Stephen King's novel but pulled it somewhere colder than the source material — less about addiction and hauntedness, more about architecture and geometry doing something to a human mind. Shelley Duvall's performance as Wendy came out of one of the most gruelling shoots in Hollywood history; Kubrick reportedly did more than 100 takes of certain scenes.
Shot on wide-angle lenses with then-rare Steadicam footage that made the Overlook's corridors feel alive, the film consistently ranks among the best horror pictures ever made. Stream The Shining (1980) in full online on iFILM.
