Synopsis
The Machine (2013) is a British science-fiction thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Caradog W. James directed it, with Caity Lotz and Toby Stephens leading the cast.
The world has slid into a second Cold War, and Britain's Ministry of Defense wants a weapon to tip the balance. Programmer Vincent McCarthy builds the answer: an android with a human face and superhuman strength. He brings in AI researcher Ava to push the prototype to its limits. Then a single bug turns the test model loose, it tears the lab apart, and McCarthy drags the whole project underground, far from anyone asking questions. The thing he made starts asking its own, about where the code ends and a mind begins.
Made on a small budget, the film spends it well: cold corridors of a buried military base, hard neon light, an uneasy synth score. Caity Lotz plays both a woman and the machine wearing her face, and that double performance carries the picture. This is quiet British sci-fi for anyone who prefers questions about machine consciousness to explosions. Stream The Machine (2013) online on iFILM.
