Synopsis
Maximum Overdrive (1986) is a sci-fi horror with a streak of black comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Earth drifts through the tail of a comet, and machines everywhere snap to life. Electric knives, lawnmowers, an ATM, the big rigs on the highway, all of them suddenly want blood.
The trucks are the worst of it. A pack of growling eighteen-wheelers lays siege to a roadside gas stop, circling like sharks. Trapped inside is a small group led by ex-con Bill Robinson, played by a young Emilio Estevez. Fuel runs low, no help is coming, and out front a truck with a leering Green Goblin face keeps grinding its loops. The survivors either find a way out or end up under the wheels.
This is the only film Stephen King ever directed himself, adapted from his own short story Trucks, with a full soundtrack handed to AC/DC.
