Annihilation

Annihilation (2018) is Alex Garland's sci-fi horror film, available to watch online on iFILM. Biologist Lena steps into the Shimmer, a spreading zone along the coast where the rules of nature have quietly stopped applying.

Expeditions go in and never report back. Lena's husband came home wrong and collapsed into organ failure, and that is what pushes her to volunteer. She joins four other women: a physicist, a paramedic, a geologist, a psychologist guiding them toward the lighthouse at the center. Behind the iridescent border, plant and animal life fuse into impossible shapes, memory turns slippery, and human DNA begins rewriting itself cell by cell.

Natalie Portman leads as Lena, alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Oscar Isaac. Garland adapted Jeff VanderMeer's novel into something cold and dread-soaked, more interested in self-destruction than in monsters. People still argue about that final scene.
