Synopsis
Thirteen (2003) is Catherine Hardwicke's debut drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Straight-A seventh-grader Tracy falls in with Evie, the most popular girl at school, and her steady life unravels in a matter of weeks.
Evan Rachel Wood plays the quiet kid who just wants to be liked. Nikki Reed's Evie hands her a world of shoplifting, drugs, casual sex, and self-harm. At home, Tracy's mom Melanie runs a hair salon out of the living room and keeps the family afloat after a divorce. Holly Hunter plays her with every crack showing, watching her daughter slip away and unable to grab hold.
Reed co-wrote the script at fifteen, drawing on her own early teens, and shot it with Hardwicke on shaky handheld cameras in 24 days. The film won the directing prize at Sundance, and Holly Hunter landed an Oscar nomination. A raw, unsentimental look at growing up too fast. Stream Thirteen (2003) online on iFILM.
