Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland (1951) is the hand-drawn Disney animated feature you can watch online on iFILM. Bored on a riverbank, a curious girl spots a waistcoated White Rabbit checking his pocket watch and dives down his burrow after him.

From there nothing behaves. Alice shoots up to the ceiling, then shrinks to mouse size, argues with a hookah-smoking Caterpillar, crashes an endless tea party thrown by the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, and gets riddled by the grinning Cheshire Cat. Waiting at the end is the croquet lawn of the furious Queen of Hearts, who answers every disagreement with a roar of "Off with their heads!"

This thirteenth Disney feature folds two of Lewis Carroll's books into one wild afternoon. Three directors shared the work, and young Kathryn Beaumont voiced Alice herself.
