In the Soup

In the Soup (1992) is a black-and-white indie comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Alexandre Rockwell shot it across a co-production spanning the US and several European countries, with Steve Buscemi as a broke, self-doubting filmmaker lugging around a 500-page screenplay no one wants to read.

Adnare posts an ad to sell the script and ends up with Joe — a small-time crook played by Seymour Cassel with infectious, dangerous charm. Joe talks big: money, connections, a real movie. All he needs in return are "little favours." Those favours escalate fast, while Adnare's neighbour (Jennifer Beals) watches the unravelling with quiet disbelief. The film won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival.
