Synopsis
MacArthur (1977) — watch online on iFILM — is a biographical war drama directed by Joseph Sargent, with Gregory Peck taking on one of the most divisive figures in American military history. The film moves from the fall of the Philippines in 1942 through the Pacific campaign to MacArthur's forced removal from Korean command by President Truman in 1952, framed as a long flashback during a visit to West Point.
Peck plays the general not as a monument but as a man who believed his own mythology so completely that he was willing to defy the Commander-in-Chief publicly. The film gives room to both the tactical brilliance and the stubbornness that ended his career — and that tension is what keeps it from turning into a straightforward tribute.
