Synopsis
Next Floor (2008) is a Canadian short film by Denis Villeneuve you can watch online on iFILM. Eleven formally dressed guests sit at a banquet table and eat. The floor gives way. They drop one level and keep eating.
No dialogue, no explanation — just an unbroken rhythm of courses and collapses. The waiters refill glasses. The guests reach for more. Each plunge takes them a little deeper into the building, and possibly into something harder to name. Villeneuve made this years before Arrival and Dune, while still finding a visual grammar that was entirely his own. The film won the Jury Prize in the short film category at Cannes 2008 — eleven minutes that earned him a standing in world cinema long before his feature career took off.
