American Made

American Made (2017) is Doug Liman's crime comedy starring Tom Cruise, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It follows the true run of Barry Seal, an airline pilot who got pulled into spy work for an intelligence agency at the tail end of the 1970s, flying camera missions over Central America.

Bored behind the controls of a passenger jet, Seal says yes to a strange offer from a handler named Schafer (Domhnall Gleeson). Aerial photos come first. Soon he is hauling cocaine for Colombian traffickers out of Medellín and carrying guns back to insurgents in Nicaragua. The cash piles up faster than he can hide it, so he buries duffel bags of bills in the yard. His wife Lucy (Sarah Wright) spends freely and asks nothing, until the suitcases of money turn into a liability.

Liman shoots the whole scheme like a dizzy carnival ride, all handheld cameras and breakneck pace, with Cruise flying many of the planes himself. The film leans on declassified files and old newspaper reporting from the period. Stream American Made (2017) online on iFILM.
