Synopsis
Where the Wild Things Are (2009) is Spike Jonze's family fantasy drama you can watch online on iFILM. He takes Maurice Sendak's ten-sentence picture book and stretches it into a full feature about a lonely boy and the wild place his anger builds for him.
After a fight with his mother, Max pulls on his wolf suit, runs off, and sails across the dark to an island ruled by huge, shaggy creatures. They roar, wreck things, and pile on top of each other — then crown Max their king. James Gandolfini voices Carol, the most volatile of them, a beast who sulks and clings and fears being left behind in painfully human ways. Catherine Keener plays Max's mom, with Catherine O'Hara and Forest Whitaker among the island voices.
Jonze didn't make a bedtime fairy tale. The film sits with a kid's rage, his terror of abandonment, and his quiet ache to go home. He co-wrote the script with Dave Eggers, and the shambling monsters came from Jim Henson Company suits blended with digital faces. Many still call it one of the few children's films that meets a child at eye level. Watch Where the Wild Things Are (2009) online on iFILM.
