Synopsis
The Most Dangerous Game (1932) is an American adventure thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Irving Pichel and Ernest B. Schoedsack adapted Richard Connell's 1924 short story: after a shipwreck, big-game hunter Bob Rainsford, played by Joel McCrea, washes up on a fog-wrapped island and finds himself the guest of the enigmatic Count Zaroff.
Zaroff — portrayed by Leslie Banks — is cultured, precise, and deeply bored with conventional hunting. The heads mounted in his trophy room are not animals. He has devised a pursuit that, in his view, presents a genuine challenge: releasing human prey into the island's jungle and giving them a head start until dawn. Rainsford and fellow survivor Eve Towbridge, played by Fay Wray, have one night to stay alive and find a way off the island.
Shot back-to-back with King Kong on the same RKO jungle sets and with several overlapping crew members, the sixty-minute black-and-white film is one of early Hollywood's sharpest survival thrillers — and a direct ancestor of every "most dangerous game" premise that followed.
