Synopsis

Career criminal "Doc" Riedenschneider walks out of prison with a jewel heist already mapped out in precise detail. Assembling the crew is the easy part — seasoned professionals, each with a specific role. The weak link is the fence: lawyer Alonzo Emmerich keeps a young mistress (Marilyn Monroe, in one of her earliest screen appearances) and is quietly broke beneath the respectable surface. When everyone needs a cut at once, a single bad moment sets the whole plan sliding. Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Sam Jaffe and James Whitmore lead the cast.
