Synopsis
Straw Dogs (1971) is Sam Peckinpah's psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. David Sumner, a soft-spoken American mathematician, moves with his wife Amy to the Cornish village where she grew up, hoping for quiet and time to work. Quiet is the last thing he gets.
The local men resent the outsider on sight. David swallows the mockery and pretends not to notice how the laborers hired to fix the barn keep eyeing his wife. Amy, raised among these people, senses the menace long before he does. One of the workmen, Charlie, is an old flame of hers. The needling hardens into harassment, the harassment creeps toward the house, and a man who has spent his life avoiding a fight has to decide how much he will take.
Dustin Hoffman plays David as a coiled spring; Susan George is Amy. Peckinpah delivered one of the most divisive films of its era, banned for years in several countries over its brutality. The argument about what it says about violence has never really settled. Stream Straw Dogs (1971) online on iFILM.
