Synopsis

The Fountain (2006) is Darren Aronofsky's science-fiction romance you can watch online on iFILM. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz carry a love that refuses to end with death.

The film unfolds across three timelines at once. A present-day surgeon named Tommy races to cure his dying wife Izzi (Weisz), testing the bark of a rare tree on his patients. A sixteenth-century conquistador hacks through Mayan jungle on the orders of the Spanish queen, hunting the Tree of Life. And a bald traveler drifts through space inside a glass sphere, cradling an ancient tree as he sails toward a dying star. Three threads, one stubborn refusal to let go.

Aronofsky shot the cosmic scenes without CGI, filming chemical reactions in petri dishes to build his nebulae. Clint Mansell's score, performed with the band Mogwai and the Kronos Quartet, has its own devoted following. Some viewers walk away cold; others hold the film close for life.
