Costumed vigilantes were once ordinary here, until the law forced them into retirement. Everything cracks open when the Comedian, a cynical masked mercenary, is thrown through a high-rise window. The murder pulls in Rorschach, the one hero who refused to unmask or surrender to the government. Pulling on that thread, he drags into the light a plot aimed at every former crimefighter at once. Around him stand a softened Nite Owl, the Silk Spectre, a glowing blue superhuman called Dr. Manhattan rebuilt after a lab accident, and Ozymandias, billed as the smartest man on Earth. The cast includes Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup and Matthew Goode.

The Doomsday Clock sits frozen near midnight, the USSR and the United States edge toward nuclear war, and the ending forces one ugly question: what price buys peace.
