Synopsis
The We and the I (2012) — watch online Michel Gondry's intimate drama set entirely on a single Bronx bus ride on iFILM. The French-American production was shot in a real New York City transit bus with a cast of non-professional teenagers from the South Bronx neighbourhood where the story takes place.
Last day of school. Thirty-five students board the bus and the city slowly empties it out. Each stop thins the crowd and shifts the power. The kid who commands a full bus is not the same person left sitting with two people. Gondry filmed on location without studio sets, letting the actual Bronx geography do the work. No plot machinery — just the social physics of a group dissolving one seat at a time.
Gondry strips out every coming-of-age convention and films what actually happens when the audience shrinks: people get real, fast. At 103 minutes it never outstays its premise, and the non-actors bring an unforced honesty that a professional cast would struggle to fake. A small film that earns its reputation.
