Synopsis

Planet of the Apes (1968) is the science-fiction classic by Franklin J. Schaffner you can watch online on iFILM. Astronaut Taylor, played by Charlton Heston, crash-lands on a strange world where apes rule and humans are mute, hunted animals.

Caged like livestock, Taylor finds two unlikely allies: the chimpanzee scientist Zira (Kim Hunter) and her fiance Cornelius (Roddy McDowall), who suspect their prisoner can reason. Standing against them is Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans), an orangutan minister who guards ancient dogma and sees a talking man as the deadliest of threats. Taylor's escape across the scorched Forbidden Zone drives him toward a truth he never wanted to face.

John Chambers won an honorary Academy Award for the ape makeup, and the screenplay by Rod Serling and Michael Wilson, adapted from Pierre Boulle's novel, reshaped the genre and launched one of Hollywood's longest-running franchises. The film closes on one of cinema's most quoted twists, which we will leave unspoiled. Stream Planet of the Apes (1968) online on iFILM.
