Monsters

Monsters (2010) is a sci-fi road-trip drama you can watch online on iFILM. A NASA probe carrying alien samples broke apart over Central America, and six years on, half of Mexico is a quarantined zone where towering creatures roam the dark.

American photographer Andrew gets one job from his boss: get the man's daughter, Samantha, across the infected territory to the U.S. border. It was supposed to take a couple of days. Then the tickets vanish, her passport is stolen, and two near-strangers are left to cross the jungle on foot, past burned-out villages and gunships, while building-sized organisms glow in the night. The film leans on the quiet pull between them, not on monster fights.

This was the debut of Gareth Edwards, who would go on to direct Godzilla and Rogue One. He shot it with a tiny crew on a shoestring and built most of the visual effects himself on a home PC.
