The First Purge

The First Purge (2018) is a horror-action thriller you can watch online in good quality on iFILM. It's the prequel to the whole franchise, going back to the experiment that started the annual lawless night.

A new ruling party, the New Founding Fathers of America, tests a theory on one isolated community: for twelve hours, every crime is legal. The pitch is that letting people vent their rage will push the crime rate down for the rest of the year. Staten Island is the test ground, and residents are paid to stay. Dmitri, a local drug kingpin played by Y'lan Noel, ends up shielding the neighborhood once it becomes obvious the trial was rigged from the start. Nya, an activist played by Lex Scott Davis, fights to keep her people out of the slaughter.

Director Gerard McMurray works from a script by James DeMonaco, who created the original Purge films. The movie runs about an hour and a half and rests on one ugly question: what happens when violence is declared legal for a single night. Stream The First Purge (2018) online on iFILM.
