The Survivalist

The Survivalist (2015) is a British post-apocalyptic thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It's the debut feature from writer-director Stephen Fingleton, set in a near future where the food supply collapsed long ago and a lone man tends a hidden patch of farmland in the forests of Northern Ireland — his only rule: let no one in.

Martin McCann plays the survivalist with almost no dialogue — the character communicates through watchfulness and physical routine. Two women emerge from the trees: a mother, played by Olwen Fouéré, and her daughter, played by Mia Goth in an early performance. They're hungry and they have something to offer. He lets them stay. What follows is a three-person standoff where hunger, trust and threat keep shifting against each other in ways that are hard to predict.

Fingleton shot the film with minimal soundtrack and very sparse dialogue, letting the forest and the tension carry the story. The Survivalist won at the Tribeca Film Festival. Stream The Survivalist (2015) online on iFILM.
