Soon Thunderbolt's former crew catches up, the vicious Red Leary (George Kennedy) and the quiet Eddie among them. Together they plot to repeat an old vault job, blasting through the wall with a war-surplus cannon. Old grudges and clashing tempers keep getting in the way.

This was the directing debut of Michael Cimino, later behind The Deer Hunter, working from his own script. Jeff Bridges earned an Oscar nomination for the role.
