Four mismatched teens stuck in detention boot up a game none of them recognize, and the screen pulls them straight in. Inside the jungle of Jumanji each one wakes up in a wildly different body: scrawny Spencer becomes hulking Dr. Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), jock Fridge shrinks into a pint-sized zoologist (Kevin Hart), a shy nerd turns into middle-aged professor Oberon (Jack Black), and quiet Martha gets the lethal moves of Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). Rhino stampedes, black mambas, motorcycle chases, and three lives apiece. Lose them all and the game keeps you forever.

The real joy here is grown movie stars playing teenagers trapped in the wrong avatars. Jack Black as a vain high-schooler steals nearly every scene.
