Duel

Duel (1971) is a road thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It's Steven Spielberg's feature debut, shot for television when he was just twenty-four years old.

Traveling salesman David Mann (Dennis Weaver) is driving the empty highways of the California desert when he passes a rusty tanker truck. That's all it takes. The trucker — whose face we never see — starts hunting him: cutting him off, forcing him toward the shoulder, daring him into oncoming traffic. No driver, no motive, just a roaring slab of metal that has decided to wipe one man off the road. Mann is left alone with his fear and a sedan that can barely keep up the chase.

Richard Matheson wrote the script from his own short story, and Spielberg wrings pure tension out of a nearly plotless premise, with no music cues to hold your hand.
