Synopsis
Amistad (1997) — watch online Steven Spielberg's courtroom drama about a slave ship mutiny that became a defining legal battle of 19th-century America, streaming in HD on iFILM. Djimon Hounsou plays Sengbe Pieh, known as Cinqué, who led the uprising aboard a Cuban vessel in 1839 and steered it toward land — only to have the ship seized off the Connecticut coast.
What followed was not one trial but several, each asking a different version of the same question: under American law, were these men property or people? Matthew McConaughey plays Roger Baldwin, a property lawyer who took the case against all odds. Morgan Freeman appears as abolitionist Theodore Joadson, maneuvering through political backchannels. The case eventually climbed to the Supreme Court, where a frail former president agreed to argue for the defense — Anthony Hopkins as John Quincy Adams, drawing on decades of moral compromise to say something he should have said much earlier.
Spielberg worked from trial records and surviving accounts rather than a single source. The film runs 155 minutes because the legal machinery of the era moved slowly and the human cost of that slowness was the point. Stream Amistad (1997) online on iFILM.
