Synopsis
Journey's End (2017) is a British war drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Saul Dibb and adapted from R.C. Sherriff's celebrated 1928 stage play. Spring 1918, the Aisne sector: a small company of officers huddles in a dugout waiting for a German offensive that intelligence says will be overwhelming.
Second Lieutenant Raleigh, played by Asa Butterfield, arrives at the front with the bright eyes of someone who hasn't seen what the trenches actually do to a man. His commanding officer Stanhope — Sam Claflin — is that same school hero Raleigh once idolized, now barely functional, keeping himself upright on whiskey and sheer force of habit. Paul Bettany plays the pragmatic cook Trotter who copes by counting down the days, while Toby Jones brings quiet sadness to the older officer Trotter who has long stopped believing in meaning. Stephen Graham rounds out a cast that turns a confined space into a full portrait of men under impossible pressure.
Sherriff wrote the play from his own trench experience, and the claustrophobia on screen is deliberate — almost no outdoor action, just the weight of waiting. Watch Journey's End (2017) online on iFILM.
