Synopsis

Hugh Jackman plays Jean Valjean, a man who spent nearly two decades in chains for stealing a loaf of bread. Freed at last, he builds a new name and a quiet life. Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe) refuses to let it go and hunts him for years. When the dying Fantine begs Valjean to protect her daughter Cosette, he takes the girl in and never looks back. Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter round out the ensemble.
The film adapts the long-running stage show built on Victor Hugo's novel. Hooper's gamble of recording every song on camera paid off, earning Anne Hathaway an Academy Award.
